Cardon Skincare Review

If there’s one unexpected thing to find in a men’s skincare brand, it’s cactus. In what alternate universe does one of the harshest plants on earth seem like something worth rubbing on your face? Well, Cardon skincare doesn’t recommend rubbing a cactus on your face, they did find that cactus extract has skincare benefits. Cardon’s award-winning skincare was developed in South Korea, the mecca of skincare, using the most unexpected ingredient ever. Cactus!

Read on to find out why Cardon uses cactus extract in all their skincare products. Then, use the Revoupon exclusive Cardon Coupon Code to save on your Cardon skincare purchase.

How I reviewed Cardon Skincare

The team at Cardon was gracious enough to send me a handful of products to test. For this Cardon review I used the Purifying Clay Cleanser, Dark Circle Eye Rescue, and SPF + Moisturizer for 30-days. In addition, I was sent two sheet-masks, one of which included beard oil and the mask was designed specifically for guys with a beard. Cardon scored instant points with me for that move. When it’s all said-and-done, what really matters in this Cardon review is the results. I’ll discuss other aspects of the brand from ingredients and bottle quality to smell and texture; but the outcome is what matters and results may vary.

Cardon Review: Delivery Time and Price

For this review, I was sent a few independent products and not a kit. So, there will be cost savings by purchasing a set such as the anti-aging or essential skincare set. Although I did not order directly from Cardon, I did receive tracking for my products and it took 4 days to arrive. I had just finished the Lumin Review, so it was the perfect opportunity to “detox” from another skincare brand before trying Cardon’s skincare products.

Purifying Clay Cleanser – The Men’s Purifying Cleanser through subscription would cost $16.20 every one-to-two months, or $18 for a one-time purchase.

Dark Circle Eye Rescue – Cardon’s Dark Circle Eye Rescue eye stick costs $20.80 for a 1 or 2-month subscription or $23 for a single purchase.

Daily SPF + Moisturizer – The Daily SPF + Moisturizer is $17.99 for s subscription or $19.99 for a single purchase. Spoiler alert, the bottle is really cool.

Soothing Facemask – I received a single Soothing Facemask which costs $4.95 and $5.50 for a subscription or one-time purchase respectively. However, a four-pack is also available which brings the total to $17.99 or $19.99 depending on your delivery preference.

Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask + Beard Oil – The Bamboo Sheet Mask + Beard Oil is designed for men with beards and like the soothing mask is available in one or four mask bundles. Costs are exactly the same as the soothing masks.

Cardon Review: Bottle Quality/Packaging

The overall look of Cardon skincare products is clean. The silver and black color scheme has a manly feel that looks great in any shower or bathroom décor. Their products have a modern design feel and without the flamboyant color, it’s not an eye-sore if sitting on the countertop or a tub ledge.

Purifying Clay Cleanser – The Purifying Clay Cleanser comes packaged in a simple tube with a flip top. There is a foil “quality seal” to ensure the cleanser isn’t tampered with and prevent leaking into the top. The plastic tube is typical of skincare and doesn’t feel flimsy or cheap. I prefer plastic over meta, as the metal often forces extra product out or “pops” upon opening, sometimes wasting cleanser.

Dark Circle Eye Rescue – As with the cleanser, the Eye Rescue serum comes in a plastic tube. However, the dispenser for the Eye Rescue is a three-ball roller, which works very well. Unlike the Lumin roller where the I am never quite sure if it’s just a cold ball or product, the Cardon tube can be squeezed gently to extrude serum, so I am always certain it’s being applied.

Daily SPF + Moisturizer – AT the time of this writing, I have not worked through all of the moisturizer in the unique bottle, but I suspect it will be hard to get all of the moisturizer from the rectangular bottle. The bottle isn’t so rigid that it can’t be squeezed, but it is rigid enough that I can’t be sure I am pushing all the product out. Since the bottle is opaque I also cannot see how much is left.

Soothing Facemask – A single sheet mask in a foil wrapper. Nothing special to report here, as it resembles most sheet mask packaging. Pro Tip: when photographing the sheetmask against a cactus backdrop, the needles will puncture the foil wrap and leak some of the serum within. Don’t lay your Cardon Facemask against a cactus unless you plan on using it right away.

Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask + Beard Oil – The Bamboo Sheet Maks + Bear Oil is packaged in the same way as the Soothing Facemask, but with a separate section on the bottom of the packaging to hold the beard oil.

Cardon Review: Smell and Texture

Purifying Clay Cleanser – The Cardon line of men’s skincare products is the best smelling product I’ve tested. Unlike Caldera + Lab, I think this smell would appeal to most men. It is a sweeter smell, but it doesn’t linger. I assume the scent is derived mostly from the cactus extract, but whatever it is, it smells, great. It’s obvious on application that this is a clay cleanser, as it has a silty feel between your fingers and upon application.

Dark Circle Eye Rescue – As far as I can tell, and based upon the ingredients, the Dark Circle Eye Rescue does not have a specific scent. There’s a slight chemical smell, but nothing overbearing, and I didn’t notice the scent until I was actively trying to identify a smell. The serum is clear and slick. It’s thin, with a gel like texture. It reminds me of a watered-down aloe vera gel.

Daily SPF + Moisturizer – The Cardon moisturizer has a pleasant, light scent. It’s not a nostalgic scent like Hawaiian Tropic is for me, having grown up in Hawai’i but it it’s also not a pronounced either. It has a consistency you’d expect from a moisturizer or sunscreen. I was surprised not to see any cactus extract in the ingredient list. There is a slight yellowish-orangish hue to the moisturizer, presumably from the turmeric root extract.

Soothing Facemask – The Soothing Facemask is made of thick white cloth, which is unlike the only other “stretchable” facemasks I’ve used in the past. The scent is pleasant and fresh. I am assuming the most prominent scent is from the cactus extract, although there are some other leaf and plants present in the ingredients.

Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask + Beard Oil – The Bamboo charcoal sheet mask is black and made from thick cloth as well. It’s cooling to the skin and is saturated in serum. The “liquid” doesn’t feel heavy and if it weren’t for being slightly viscous, could even be mistaken for water – the first ingredient. The beard oil was smooth and had no overpowering scent, unlike other oils I’ve used in the past.

Cardon Review: The Ingredients

Cardon’s website insists that every product the make has cactus as an ingredient. I’m not well versed on the different species or scientific names of cactus, but I didn’t see it plainly listed on each product. While some clearly state “Prickly Pear Cactus” on the list of ingredients, other don’t. Below are the exact ingredients for each product I tested. One thing I noticed during this Cardon review was the ingredient C13-15 Alkane used in the beard oil. After a little research I found that this ingredient is an emollient that gives a gliding sensation to products is used in. Concern arose for me when I noticed that it is deemed as a potentially cancer causing ingredient. I’ll let you do your own research, but it seems reasonable to me that a product filled with oil could do without the use of a “gliding” agent that may or may not cause cancer.

Cardon Review: Directions and Usage

Purifying Clay Cleanser – Apply a nickel-sized amount of cleanser to your hands. Massage gently into your face for about 30-seconds before rinsing thoroughly.

Dark Circle Eye Rescue – On a clean, dry face, squeeze some serum onto the roller balls. Roll the dark circle cream onto the area under the eyes, avoiding the eyelids. Continue rolling the serum until the product absorbs thoroughly into the skin.

Daily SPF + Moisturizer – Use daily for best results and protection from the suns harsh effects. Place a nickel-sized amount of moisturizer in your hand and dab around your face and neck, then rub it in. Be sure to apply PSF 15-20 minutes before sun exposure.

Soothing Facemask – After washing your face and drying, remove the mask from the packaging and place it on your face. Line up the eye, nose, and mouth holes. Leave the mask for 15-20 minutes before removing. Once removed, pat the serum into your face.

Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask + Beard Oil – Start with a freshly cleaned face. Now, open the beard oil and begin applying it generously to your beard. There’s more than enough oil to accommodate any length of facial hair. At the time, my beard was relatively short, and I had a lot left over. My one complaint would be there’s no way to salvage/save any of the oil to use later. Next, open the mask area and remove the mask. Apply the mask around the eyes first, spreading the mask out as necessary to cover the face. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes, remove, then pat the excess serum into the skin.

Cardon Review: One-week Impressions

Purifying Clay Cleanser – Whenever I use a new men’s facial cleanser I have two main worries. First, will it over dry my skin? Second, will it cause breakouts? I am happy to report that neither of these problems were encountered. The clay cleanser, when applied and massaged, became very paste-like and covered very well. I found that a nickel amount was too much and that slightly more than a pea-sized amount was sufficient, even when scrubbing my beard. Although my face felt initially dry after use, even a bit tacky, my skin was never dry or flaky during the first week.

Dark Circle Eye Rescue – As I mentioned previously, I loved the way this applied. By squeezing out some serum, I knew that I was getting coverage and not just feeling the cooling effect of the roller balls. This was something that concerned me with Lumin. As a father of 4, dark circles have become a part of my life. I have combatted them well with other men’s skincare products, so using Cardon was more about maintenance and preventing dark circles from returning. At the end of the week, I saw no change in the appearance of dark circles. In this case, it was a positive result.

Daily SPF + Moisturizer – At the time I was doing the Cardon Review, my son was playing soccer for the local high school. That meant at least two days a week sitting in the Colorado afternoon sun. What could be better to test an SPF moisturizer? As far as SPF protection, Cardon nailed it. Colorado’s sun is harsh and the thinner atmosphere at a mile-high gives way to quick sunburns. I am no longer blessed with the luscious locks of my youth and shave my head a couple of times per week. So, I made sure to apply the Daily SPF + Moisturizer to my head as well. I’m happy to report, Cardon was able to prevent any burning.

Soothing Facemask – Since I only had one facemask to test, and the directions say to use it 1-2 times per week I can’t say that I had any noticeable results. What I will say is that I did not have any allergic reactions, redness, or irritation. My skin did feel refreshed, and I didn’t use anything else for moisture after shaving. I would anticipate having a reduction in fine lines if used properly and for an extended period. Given my beard though, the shape/cut of these masks are not as conducive.

Bamboo Charcoal Sheet Mask + Beard Oil – Once again, I only had one mask to test. However, my skin did feel more refreshed from this mask than the Soothing Facemask and having been cut for my beard, was a lot more comfortable to wear for 20 minutes. As with the other mask, I had no ill effects or reactions. As for the beard oil, I was also only able to use it once. However, that one use was enough to know it was quality. If Cardon sold the beard oi separately, I would definitely consider purchasing it for regular use.

Cardon Review: One-month Results

Purifying Clay Cleanser – I wash my face twice a day, sometimes more if I hit the gym in the middle of the day. Despite using the cleanser 3x a day on occasion, I never had an issue with over drying. The cleanser works well, and according to Cardon, clay has 4x the power of charcoal in removing excess oil. My skin isn’t oily, so I think that is a bit overkill for my needs. If my rating of cleansers were based solely on scent, Cardon would be a frontrunner. Even after 30 days of use, I still enjoyed the fragrance. I don’t have a great palette for telling you what’s in a food or wine, and my nose isn’t much better. Cardon says there’s grapefruit, mandarin, lime, musk, and amber in the blend. Whatever it is, it smells great.

Dark Circle Eye Rescue – You know it’s time to address skincare when people start telling you, you look tired. That happened to me a few months back, and what really prompted my desire to review men’s skincare. Most of those comments were aimed at my eyes. Cardon made good on their product name with the Dark Circle Eye Rescue and kept my dark circles from returning. I didn’t notice a reduction in fine lines around my eyes, but that doesn’t seem to be the intended use for this product.

Daily SPF + Moisturizer – I must admit, I didn’t use this product everyday because I wasn’t spending that much time in the sun. So, it seemed unnecessary to apply SPF daily. As far as moisturizer is concerned, I can’t say I saw a positive or negative result. What I can say is that the SPF served its purpose during my extended sun exposure.

Cardon Review Results and Final Thoughts

Men’s skincare is so personal. Even fragrance can be a factor in whether a product or brand is a fit for a man. If this Cardon review came down purely to scent, I’d recommend it 100% Cardon has created one of the best smelling skincare brands I’ve ever tested. Unfortunately, there’s more to skincare than just scent. Luckily, Cardon is more than just a pretty scent – it’s also a pretty face.

The Purifying cleanser removes oil better than other brands I’ve tested without over-drying. The use of clay may be unnecessary for some, as opposed to charcoal. However, during my time using Cardon I didn’t see that as a problem.

The Dark Circle Eye Rescue kept my dark circles away, which is precisely its intended purpose. So, I’d consider purchasing it for continued use after this review. Wrinkles and dark circles are the two biggest contributors to a man looking older than he should. Finding a product that can eliminate one of those skincare concerns is a blessing. Cardon will rescue you from the effects of poor sleep, stress, and in my case, kids.

Luckily, I didn’t feel the need to use the Daily SPR + Moisturizer. Mainly because the purifying cleanser wasn’t drying enough to make me feel like I needed to. Sunscreens tend to be heavy, which was another reason a stayed away from daily use. As it were, the SPF provided the sun protection I needed when I needed it. I just don’t think I’d be comfortable using this product daily unless it was for sun protection. As a moisturizer, I feel their Hydro Boost moisturizer is a better choice.

The facemask was refreshing, and my initial thoughts are that they’d deliver fine line reduction and vibrant skin if used as directed. The enclosed beard oil had jojoba oil, which is a staple of all the best beard oils, but I was concerned by the addition of C13-15 Alkane as a gliding agent.

All-in-all, my experience with the Cardon products I was provided was excellent. I wish I had received the hydro-boosting gel instead of the SPF moisturizer and a full regimen of facemasks because I think the overall results would have been better. Nevertheless, I would recommend Cardon Skincare to any man looking to improve his skin, especially those with oily skin. I am also looking forward to trying the exfoliating toner wipes because they’re the perfect addition to a gym bag
